Under the name Team AD6 Tweets we met as complete strangers in May 2011. The Team Captain (me) sent a tweet to the world that he had the idea to join Alpe d’HuZes (a cancer fundraiser event) in 2012 and that he was looking for people to join a team. After a few weeks a team of 8 people (Daniel, Roelof, Ronnie, Marten, Robert, Stefan and Werner) formed and the adventure to get the sponsorship for Alpe d’HuZes.
During the remaining months of 2011 and in the run-up to June 2012, we frequently gathered on training rides, camps and sponsor opportunities. The first training the did with a small part of the group was in August a ride call “De dood of de Gladiolen” (Disaster or succes). A ride over 110 km in the Southern part of The Netherlands in the streaming rain. Although the weather was horrible the friendship started.
One of the things we organized to raise money to kick cancers ass was our own tour ride “Tour d’HuZes” together with Tourclub Zevenhuizen. All registrants had to pay a small amount to participants and the whole amount went to our team page. With great weather we raised a fair amount of money.
In June 2012 was the big day for the team. On this day we have managed as a team 39x the Alp d’Huez and thus raised a lot of money for Alpe d’HuZes.
We grew from completely strangers to real friends and after this great day we agreed together if the chance would occur we would definitely do this together again.
Memories of this day will stay forever but I have this picture in my bike room so I will never forget what a great of like-mind people with the same passion for cycling can achieve. Find some cool videos of us here!
See you next time guys!
