Mission Pink is a ride to celebrate the victory of Tom Dumoulin during the Giro d’Italy. Unfortunately due to his crash in the first week of the Giro the pink dream couldn’t be realized and his focus is now on the Tour the France. So quickly the organization found a new purpose: the pink jersey of our almost Dutch Primoz Roglic – Lotto Visma. Also this ended up in just a third place so Mission Pink was about the 5th of Bouke Mollema, a very good result for him. The planning of today was a nice 84 km together with Lisette. A good distance for the very warm conditions.
The ride itself started on the market square in Arnhem which we found after some searching. Not a lot of participants where are the start which could either mean a low attendance or everyone else started earlier. After getting our start numbers we where on our way. Getting out of Arnhem was a bit busy but once out it was a very nice ride. We found a little group and rode a decent tempo to the first stop. After the first stop we continued by ourselves because the others stopped a little longer. Suddenly somebody texted SMS WIND ON because a strong headwind came up and accompanied us for the final 40 km. Although the wind itself was nice to cool a bit down it also brought our speed down. So after slightly more then 3 hours we arrived back at the market in Arnhem.
A well deserved beer while watching the final time trail on a big screen was our gift of finishing this wonderful ride.
Riding with friends is always good, but doing it with such awesome conditions is even better. Till next time!!
